| Day Trip to Lucerne | ||||
|
Tuesday 3rd May Awake early again, still struggling to adjust the body clock. Wendy had found we could catch a train down to Lucerne, only an hour away and we could get a combo ticket to go up Mt Pilatus, the weather forecast was ordinary but it looked a nice day in Zurich, so we went for it. Seven am we were heading south. Heading down the lake we were in full sun but heading into some very dark skies. The cable car opened at 8.30 and we were on it heading up the hill. As you can see it didn't look too promising. Middle station was clear and cold with misty views of the lake. At the top it was freezing with visibility down to 10 – 20 metres. Out on the observation deck it started to snow. |
Just as we were retreating inside for a nice hot chocolate the clouds cleared for a few minutes Giving us a brief glimpse of what it might look like on a clear day. There is a road that weaves around the cliff face, presumably giving stunning views …. After 20 minutes of traipsing through freezing cold tunnels on icy tracks we retreated back inside and were happy to get back on the cable car and head back down the hill. |
Lunch by the lake looking back up to the mountain we had just been on. A walking tour of Lucerne including the city Wall and the lake front saw us back on the train and heading back to Zurich just as a huge thunderstorm struck. We picked up some more food at the station and ate in that night. |
