Fifteen kms along Loch Maree and then across a range to the coast which we follow around to Gairloch and then on to Big Sand for a rest day. Loch Maree is the fourt largest freshwater loch in Scotland.
Lunch break at the Coast Coffee Company at Gairloch Pier.
Near the top of the range we passed an RFS type truck going in the opposite direction with siren blaring. We mocked them, accusing them of being bored and just taking the truck for a joyride. When we stopped at Gairloch and relaxed in the sun looking back to the south we were surprised to see the horizon was covered in smoke. We quietly apologised to the RFS.
From Gairloch it was a short ride around to Big Sand. we were surprised to see a couple of scrub fires across the valley. Despite their being water everywhere apparently the peat is quiet dry and there is serious risk of dangerous fires. |
