On the way home from Guedelon, Christian took us to visit a friend of his. We went on a route that took us to a ridge overlooking Auxerre. Unfortunately we were looking into the sun so photographs were problematic. The top photo at left was the view over a field of grapes to Auxerre.

We drove through an orchard into a litttle village and parked outside the house pictured. Christian went looking for his friend but Wendy kept looking back at the orchard. She asked me if the trees were cherry trees. I said yes , Grandpa had a cherry farm outsde Adelaide and we would spend our summer holidays supposedly helping Grandpa pick the cherries to takes down to the markets. In truth we ate far more than we packed.

Wendy got out of the car and walked back up to the orchard, she excitedly explained to me that she had been here before, Christian had brought the family down here ftom Paris when she was a student living with them. That was 25 years earlier, when she was a 16 year old girl. Something about that small orchard was imprinted in her memory banks.
