A nice ride down the Loire
Briere, the Canal latéral à la Loire crosses the Loire River at Briere.
In the second last slide where Wendy is walking down a long flight of stairs, our bikes were parked at the bottom. When we finished exploring the viaduct we wheeled our bikes out onto the concourse and prepared to set off, however I caught my foot on the Ortlieb and fell backwards. This was not uncommon, I normally allowed myself to roll over and rocked back upon my feet. However this time I was on the slope leading down to the river and wendy's screaming convinced me to lie still to avoid rolling into the river. She was torn between taking a photo of me and helping me up, she chose to help me up so you will just have to imagine my predicament.
Views of Gien
Much of Gien was destroyed during the Second World War. The town was bombed by the Luftwaffe, who aimed to destroy the town's bridge to prevent the French Army from retreating. The bombardment created a huge fire which completely destroyed over four hundred buildings, including the town's two main churches. The town was rebuilt after the war.
Stunning views from the camping area
The camping area is straight across the river from the town centre. There is about 100 metres of sandy beach separating the campsite from the river.
